[Catch-Up] Photo 101 Day 20: Triumph

* Chariots of Fire playing in the background *

Yay!!!! It’s the last post!! I haven’t posted the photo and I feel triumphant already! Hahaha… Before my photo, I would like to share my thoughts first πŸ™‚ It’s been a great journey so far and I truly feel triumphant in many ways.. Firstly, I think this challenge has brought me falling in love with photography again. I love my photography work, don’t get me wrong, but there always comes a point where there’s little love in work.. doing photography as work can sometimes drain you.. and I was feeling a little bit lost in the work side, so I am glad I fought with myself and won now! Secondly, I feel triumphant that I posted something for all the twenty themes! Some of you might have read my earlier posts to know that I am playing catch-up even though the official close to the challenge was quite some time ago, is because I wanted to combat a bad habit of giving up on something I committed to just because I missed the timelines. I am glad I didn’t give up and have reached the end! Lastly, triumph comes from making so many new friends through working on this challenge! Thank you my new found friends for your support through the likes and comments to my postings! I’m sorry I might not have had the chance to return the favor much during this challenge, but certainly I will find time to do so!!

Ok, back to the topic.. I know my photo chosen for this theme isn’t quite as expected, but what I really want to say is really in this photo. This is a picture of a thriving little plant that is growing out of a crack in a wall. I can just imagine from a little seed landing in the crack, trying to stretch its roots into unusual grounds, to reaching out to sunlight.. I really admire its spirit and might! I have always fascinated myself with all these tiny plants that grows out of cement and concrete. They just prove that life is more than what we see it is. There can be life as long as life choose to live πŸ™‚

I hope it had been an incredible journey for you as well either reading posts or posting photos! Let us all continue on to next challenges and let our dreams live on… πŸ™‚

[Catch-Up] Photo 101 Day 19: Double

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI had sooo much ideas about this theme but I just failed in the execution so badly, that I ended up with only a very normal reflection shot hahaha. Still, I kinda like this shot of this young couple happily walking along the street chit-chatting, and it is as if I caught their inner mood on the reflection of the puddle of water left behind the rain.

But just what is the real inner mood of these two people at that moment, time and place? It has been a real challenge for me to manage my inner voice, or inner self, whichever way you call it, and the need for me to do so has heightened so much over the last 2 years. The critical voice in me grew really loud at one point, and I had serious problems functioning normally that I had to call it quits at work and to sort my way out.. Today, i am happy to say that this inner voice is more nurtured, and i have many people to thank for this. I only wish that with each day goes by, my inner self and outer self will be as close to each other as situation allows, because I think that would mean I have attained true happiness by truly being myself and facing up to who I really am. I pray the day happens.. one day..

[Catch-Up] Photo 101 Day 18: Edge

It’s been a while since I looked up at clouds and this very much happens when I am busy with “things irl”. What’s things irl? Oh, it’s a phrase I recently picked up from the younger generation, and it’s supposed to mean “things in real life”, ie, real-life issues. Gosh I don’t quite understand this generation, but since I am among them, I thought I better adapt. Ahem.

So where was I…. oh yes, clouds. busy and forgot to look at clouds yes. So yes, some clouds ought to be featured in this post – antennas on the edge of rooftops, shot by me who is on the edge of falling ill *cough*

[Catch-Up] Photo 101 Day 17: Glass

I thought of looking for stained glass but I couldn’t find anything nice to shoot simply because it was a rainy day and no light made stained glasses around pretty… but i went on a photo walk that day to take some photos of graffiti of a building that’s about to be torn down (graffiti is actually considered a rather rare sight in Singapore..) And then I saw this set of drawings on a glass door.. Perfect!

Well, this one is really just as it is.. there’s nothing much to ponder over and nothing philosophical or abstract like my Time post haha. Do take a closer look of the buildings in the reflection though, these buildings are rather characteristic of this part of the world I am in, and these we call “shophouses”. first floor is a shop, and the second used to home to the shop owners, but nowadays they could well be just two-storey shops.. I would probably be doing photo walks on shop-houses very soon so stay tuned! πŸ™‚

[Catch-Up] Photo 101 Day 16: Treasure

I’m back!! As promised…. haha. i end up didn’t buy anything to fix my technology woes, but was kindly loaned a laptop for the time beingΒ by someone who has this fantastic laptop sitting in his room and only used for onsite assignments.. so.. it’s mine for the time being heehee..

Treasure – the first thing I asked myself when I saw this theme was this: what is something I will always wish for more, and something I will be very unhappy or feel a strong sense of loss if I lost it.. the answer is:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yes, Time.

Time is one thing I will always treasure and I think we all should. Time is, in my opinion, one very powerful driving force (other than Love) that can drive a lot of changes within us and around us. It can make or break, it can help us heal.. Time creates this space between two places/people, that leads to the existence of a lot of precious things – emotions, memories – that without time, there is no sense for these to exist at all. On a less abstract (and a lighter) note, time is so precious because it is an exhaustible resource for anything and everything. So time, is to me, the greatest treasure and the greatest gift I can ever have..

So here’s to Time, given it’s yet another year gone (or another year gained for some). 8 more days to get started on things you ought to have started, 8 more days to think about how to make the next year a better year πŸ™‚

Photo 101 Day 3: Water

Photo101-Day3-1

I am a Piscean and so I think I’m very much affiliated to water by birth. Water calms me down, and water gives me a sense of peace. It is my dream to live near the water, be it an apartment with a great sea view, or just overlooking a reservoir will do. I remember during the time when I kept getting anxiety attacks, I find myself going to places near water, and instantly I feel better.

I consider this image above a scene quite rare to Singapore. Natural places and scenery like this is hard to come by as land is scarce and few plots of land remain undeveloped. This photo was taken in a nearby island named Pulau Ubin, where there are still a few granite quarries in existence, and the turquoise color of the water in the quarry are naturally this color. When I arrived at this place, I felt I was taken into another space altogether. Many Singaporean photographers find it hard to get good photos in Singapore (by the way, this IS sadly the truth). but still there are places like this in our own backyard that is worth us taking a second look πŸ™‚

Photo101 Day 2: Street

Today has been a pretty packed day and I almost couldn’t find time to shoot a photo for today! When i was on the bus on my way home, I went up the double decker and was happy to find a seat right in front. Good, I thought, I could take some photos of the streets as the bus goes! That should do! But alas.. the results were.. well.. not quite presentable..

And just when I was about to give up, I suddenly had an idea as dusk fell and the street lit up. I’ve always wanted to try to create those heart shape bokehs myself (not filters or effects!), so I thought maybe it’s a good time to do some experimenting, and in time for today’s theme πŸ™‚ I wanted to shoot a different kind of street photo albeit still taken off a street… And here’s the result!

Photo101-Day2-1

LOL. Where are the hearts..? Oh you call those hearts?? Yes I hear all of you, cos that’s what I thought too! Oh well, we learn through failures don’t we…. my preliminary analysis tells me, that maybe i didn’t cut out the heart shape properly.. or maybe it was too small.. or maybe even too big??

Photo101-Day2-2

This is better right? see the hearts? see the hearts?? :p

Nonetheless, it was a fun experiment, and certainly I’m going to attempt this again πŸ˜‰
